Specialties of Baji Township

Peanuts are a favorite food among people, and Baji Peanuts are favored by people for their high quality and delicious taste. Siyang is located in the Huanghuai alluvial plain in northern Jiangsu. It has a subtropical monsoon transitional climate with four distinct seasons, sufficient sunlight and abundant rainfall, making it suitable for peanut cultivation. Most of the land in Baji Township is sandy loam, with large temperature differences between day and night. The peanuts grown have thin shells, tender meat, high oil content and good taste. Baji peanuts are one of Siyang's famous specialties, with a long history and strong local characteristics. As early as the Spring and Autumn Period, Confucius went from Lu to Wu to give lectures. He passed by the place where he is today. The local students famously asked him to stay and teach. Some of the students gave him dried meat and some local peanuts. After tasting the peanuts, Confucius praised him repeatedly. He said: "If you eat this fruit, you can live forever." After Confucius left, people named the place where he lectured "Xuecheng", built houses and set up memorial tablets, and the peanut local product he praised was named "Longevity Fruit".

Baji peanuts are fried and have the characteristics of white, fragrant, sweet and crispy. They are packaged beautifully and can be given as gifts to relatives and friends. They are top quality. With the development of the market economy, the local government has implemented industrial structure adjustments, expanded the peanut planting area, improved peanut varieties, implemented fertilizer and potassium supplementation projects, implemented pollution-free management, and actively developed township enterprises for peanut frying. In 1999, "Baji Peanut" became a registered trademark, and the products sold well all over the country. The famous Fanyin Temple is located on the south bank of the old Yellow River in Siyang County, covering an area of ??about three acres. There is an apple orchard in the front and a green forest belt in the back. The temple is nestled among green pines and cypresses. Turn right from Renmin South Road and follow Foyuan Road to the west for less than 200 meters to reach Fanyin Temple. Fanyin Temple, formerly known as "Guanyin Temple", was built in the early Qing Dynasty. Its original site is in the north gate of Zhongxing Town on the north bank of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. It has a history of 300 years. By the beginning of the 20th century, there were only three earth-walled thatched temples in the front and rear halls of Guanyin Nunnery, and a few dormitories in the east and west, all of which were firewood houses. There were more than twenty Bodhisattvas placed in the halls. According to the memories of local elders, there have been five or six generations of descendants from Monk Cai to Fang Yu and Shengyi. During the "Cultural Revolution", all the large and small Bodhisattvas in the "Guanyin Temple" were smashed by the "rebels", and monks such as Fang Yu and Guang Sheng were raised by the neighborhood committee as "five-guarantee households". After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1979, the policy of freedom of religious belief was truly implemented. However, the original land of "Guanyin Nunnery" was mostly occupied by surrounding residents, leaving less than 30 square meters of Sanjiancao. The temple is in dilapidated condition, there are few believers, and the incense is desolate. After 1990, the nunnery was presided over by Master Shengyi from Jituolin in Yangzhou. The number of believers doubled and the Dharma industry gradually flourished.

In the spring of 1992, Mr. Chen Huijian, a friend from Taiwan who was a famous Buddhist researcher on both sides of the Taiwan Straits and even in Southeast Asia, returned to the mainland to visit relatives. Once, his young grandson Hanqing accidentally invited Mr. Huijian to worship Buddha in the nunnery. He saw that the "Guanyin nunnery" activity place was too small, and he felt sorry for it. After returning to Taiwan, he wrote an article and published it in "Nagarjuna Magazine", urging believers on the island to donate more than 100,000 US dollars to help rebuild Guanyin Temple in his hometown, promote Buddhism and increase tourist attractions. Afterwards, with the strong support of the Siyang County Government, in July 1993, two acres and six cents of clean land was purchased for reconstruction within the jurisdiction of the original cotton seed farm on the south bank of the Yellow River. Construction began in August, and Mr. Huijian's eldest son Ai Qun supervised the project, which was completed at the end of May of the following year. After the completion of the new temple, "Guanyin Temple" was renamed "Fanyin Temple", and a grand consecration ceremony for the Giant Buddha was held on September 5, 1994 (the 30th day of the seventh lunar month). Mr. Chen Huijian personally led fourteen Taiwanese eminent monks and lay people to Siyang to attend the temple's consecration ceremony. Leaders of the county party committee, county government and the main responsible persons of various ministries, commissions and bureaus were also present to congratulate. The mass literature and art propaganda teams from townships such as Huangwei, Nongwei, Xinyuan and other towns also rushed to the scene to perform dragon and lion dances to add to the fun; rows of commercial stalls were set up along both sides of the Xuhuai Highway, and 50,000 to 60,000 people from the county gathered at Fanyin Temple for sightseeing. Shopping. At the opening ceremony, Master Mingshan, the president of the Provincial Buddhist Association, and Zeng Hongxiang, the magistrate of Siyang County, respectively spoke at the meeting. Later, their speech materials and photos were published in Sanskrit in the publication "Hongyi" issued by Mr. Chen. The name of the temple spread across the Taiwan Strait and Southeast Asia. The relocation of Guanyin Nunnery and the completion of Fanyin Temple fully reflect the warm patriotism and love of Taiwan compatriots headed by Chen Huijian.

Fanyin Temple is divided into three main halls: front, middle and back.

The front hall is the Hall of Heavenly Kings. As soon as you enter the gate, there is a smiling statue of Maitreya Buddha. When people see the Laughing Buddha, they think of the profound meaning of the couplets on both sides. The first couplet is: Laugh at the ridiculous people in the world every day; the second couplet is: A big belly can accommodate the world. thing. Behind the Maitreya Buddha statue is the Dharma protector Skanda holding a sharp sword. There is also a large bell weighing more than 800 kilograms and a large drum with a diameter of 1.2 meters in the Tianwang Hall. The bell is struck and the drum is struck once at 3 o'clock in the morning and 9 o'clock in the evening. The sound can be heard for miles, which is quite impressive. In the temple courtyard, against the backdrop of two rows of green pines and flowers, a cast iron tripod about 3 meters high stands in the center. The five east wing rooms are the library, which contains more than 20,000 books on Buddhism and popular science for monks and laypeople to read. There is also a large color TV set in the room, and more than 500 sets of Buddha chanting video tapes and video discs are available. The four west wing rooms are living rooms, specially used for receiving tourists.

The main hall is the Main Hall, which is the main building in the temple. It has green bricks and tiles, flying eaves and walking walls. There are five vermilion pillars under the eaves, which looks antique. There are three large Buddha statues more than 2 meters high in the main hall, namely Sakyamuni, Medicine Master and Amitabha. The three giant Buddhas are shining with golden light, solemn and kind. On both sides of the three holy statues hanging on the back wall are eye-catching banners that read "Sincerity, Purity, Equality, Awakening, Compassion, See Through, Let Go, Freedom and Let Everything Happen." On the back of the three giant Buddhas is a statue of Guanyin standing on the back. The golden boy and the dragon girl stand on both sides, showing the image of universal salvation and great mercy. On the east mountain wall of the Main Hall is a marble inscription engraved with the origin of Fanyin Temple; on the west mountain wall is a list of 682 Taiwanese people who donated money and merit. The back hall is the Ksitigarbha Hall, in the middle of which is the statue of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, the leader of the Netherworld Cult. Place urn racks along the interior walls. After Mr. Chen Huijian passed away and was cremated, "the relics were presented as auspicious gifts, and eventually the flowers fell and the lotus blossoms formed." More than a thousand relics and more than a hundred relic flowers were left and distributed among families and temples on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Mr. Chen's stupa is also stored in the Ksitigarbha Hall of Fanyin Temple. Whenever tourists see the colorful emerald-like relics left behind by Mr. Chen, they spontaneously feel admiration. In the northeast corner of the Ksitigarbha Hall is a two-story building. There are three jade Buddhas in the middle of the downstairs. The upper floor is the Tibetan Sutra Tower. Two sets of more than 160 volumes of the Tripitaka are stored on the upper floor. It can be said to be the treasure of the temple. These two Tripitakas were purchased from Japan by Mr. Chen Huijian.

Every time it comes to the first and fifteenth day of the lunar calendar or when Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara and other Bodhisattvas celebrate Christmas, become enlightened, or become monks, many believers come to burn incense and worship Buddha, presenting a peaceful scene. The temple is decorated with flags, bells and drums, a wide range of Buddhist instruments, beautiful flowers and grasses, and green pines and cypresses. It is indeed a good place for traveling and chanting Buddha's name in our city.
