1. The applicant applies directly to the Italian Patent and Trademark Office (UIBM) to register an Italian trademark;

2. The applicant must apply to the European Union to register an EU trademark. Italy is the founder of the European Union. As one of the member states, therefore, the EU trademark is valid in Italy;

3. The applicant applies for international registration of the Madrid trademark and designates Italy as the effective country.
