The relationship between Qingdao and beer
110 years ago, Qingdao was still a small fishing village, and the word "beer" did not exist in China. Since a British businessman and a German businessman partnered to build a factory on Dengzhou Road, this liquid with passionate foam has quickly become popular throughout the city. Later, it had its own Chinese name - beer, and later it had its own home - Tsingtao Beer. Nowadays, its name is well-known at home and abroad, and some people even give it a higher historical significance: "Foreigners usually know China in two ways, one is through Confucius, and the other is through Tsingtao Beer."
1898 In 2001, the signing of the "Jiao-ao Lend Treaty" allowed the Qing government to hand over Qingdao to Germany, and it began its long colonial career. Thousands of Germans came across the ocean to this new city, and the beautiful environment allowed them to quickly adapt to life here. But there is just one thing, something seems to be missing in life.
The missing part was quickly discovered by two businessmen, one from England and one from Germany. On August 15, 1903, they invested 400,000 Mexican silver dollars (equivalent to 28 million yuan today) to build a factory on Captain Miller Street (today's Dengzhou Road) and named it "German Beer Company Qingdao Co., Ltd." ". That was the first time people saw this liquid with foam and refreshing taste. The Germans called it "BIER" at that time, and the people also called it "BIER wine". Later, it was misunderstood and simply called "BIER wine". "Yes."
The establishment of German Beer Company Qingdao Co., Ltd. met the drinking needs of German troops and expatriates stationed in Qingdao. According to records, the annual output of the factory reached 2,000 tons at that time. In 1906, the Germans built the Maoqi Barracks on Dengzhou Road. Soon after, the first beer house in Qingdao appeared near the barracks. Back then, product quality was outstanding. According to the book "Jiaozhou Bay" written by Nojiro Tahara of Japan: "The beer produced by the German Beer Company Qingdao Co., Ltd. was exhibited at the Munich Exposition in 1906 and won the gold medal."
In 1906 , at the Munich Beer Expo in Germany, the "Qingdao" brand beer produced by German Beer Company won the gold medal. You know, it is not easy to obtain authoritative recognition from the long-established German beer industry.
After the outbreak of World War I on November 11, 1914, Japan took the opportunity to invade and occupy Qingdao. On September 16, 1916, the "Dainippon Ale Co., Ltd." in Tokyo, Japan purchased the Qingdao Brewery for 500,000 silver dollars and changed its name to "Dainippon Ale Co., Ltd. Qingdao Factory". Production officially started in December of that year.
The trademarks of Tsingtao Beer were changed to "Zhahuang, Taiyang, Fushou, Qilin", etc., and the products were mainly supplied to the Japanese garrison on the Jiaodong Peninsula. Later, as Japan's control area in China continued to expand and Tsingtao beer production continued to increase, Tsingtao beer was sold to various parts of Northeast and North China, as well as cities such as Shanghai, Hankou, Fuzhou, and Xiamen. The Japanese are good at calculating their budgets. They used the yeast waste that was eliminated from production to make VitaYi tablets. Brewer's yeast is rich in vitamins, so it was called VitaYi at the time, which is now known as Shimu Sheng and Yeast Tablets. It is a medicine that helps digestion. External supply.
Victory of the Anti-Japanese War in 1945.
In October of that year, the factory was seized by the Military and Political Department of the Kuomintang government; it was immediately taken over by the Qingdao Municipal Government and the factory was renamed "Tsingtao Beer Company". On June 14, 1947, "Qilu Enterprise Co., Ltd." purchased the factory from the Enemy and Puppet Industry Processing Bureau of Qingdao District, Executive Yuan, and named it "Tsingtao Brewery". Tsingtao beer is made with spring water from Laoshan Mountain, and the logo is changed to Qingdao's iconic building trestle.
