The UAE Federal Law on Trademark Protection came into effect on January 12, 1993, and its implementation rules came into effect in February 1993. Obtaining trademark rights is based on the first-to-use principle. Product trademarks, service marks, joint trademarks and certification marks can apply for registration. The classification of goods and services is basically in accordance with the Nice International Classification Standards, but registration is not allowed for beer in category 32 and alcoholic beverages in category 33.
