Brand history:
Marina Yachting’s brand story began in 1878. Nicolò Gavino, a very experienced seaman, after several years of sailing career, chose to leave his ship and open a shop selling wool and canvas, and of course clothes. Nicolò is a clever man who seizes opportunities. When he saw the British uniforms with shiny gold buttons, he decided to import this kind of clothing and sell it.
The fabric of this kind of jacket at that time was thick blue canvas, which was thick and practical but not waterproof. So he used oil and whale oil to be spun into the fabric to create a waterproof jacket. This is the origin of the "Pickot" (sailor suit), the originator of Marina Yachting.
This business has been passed down from generation to generation. In 1965 it passed to Giorgio Gavino, Nicolò Gavino’s greatest grandson, who presented his ready-to-wear for the first time at Genoa’s Boat Show.
In 1972, Giorgio Gavino decided to design the Pickot into a more modern jacket. He designated this small sailboat with horizontal stripes sailing in the wind as the brand's trademark. So "Pickot" (sailor suit) was born.
