Petrova, Roumyana D and others found that Hericium erinaceus has the activity of inhibiting breast cancer cells. Ono Naoko; Nameda et al. used Hericium erinaceus orally to treat 14 tumor volunteers and treat cancer patients (lung cancer, gastric cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer, uterine cancer, liver cancer, etc.). Through the monitoring of 14 patients, it was found that Cr, PR and NC were improved in 9 patients.

Studies have shown that the anti-tumor effect of Hericium erinaceus is mainly achieved through its active component 6- branch 1, 3-β-D glucan (SCG). SCG mainly fights against tumors by stimulating the production of cytokines. Harada et al. found that SCG can induce mouse spleen cells to produce interferon IFN-G, tumor necrosis factor, granulocyte-macrophage colony factor (GM-CSF), interleukin-12p70 and so on. It is worth mentioning that the induction of cytokines by SCG is also influenced by other factors. Harada found that young mice produced less interferon than old mice, and young mice also produced less interferon. Hericium erinaceus can improve the hematopoietic function of the body. Ohno et al. extracted Hericium erinaceus with cold NaOH to obtain B- glucan fragment CA 1. After oral administration of CA 1, it was found that CA 1 could significantly increase the leukopenia induced by cyclophosphamide, and also regulate the number of granulocytes, T cells, B cells and NK cells.

Harada et al. found that Hericium erinaceus SCG can obviously restore cyclophosphamide-induced hematopoietic dysfunction. The recovery rate of white blood cells in abdominal cavity, liver, spleen and bone marrow in the administration group was faster than that in the control group, and the ratio of natural killer cells /gd T cells in liver, spleen and abdominal cavity was significantly improved. Harada et al. also found that soybean isoflavone (IFA) had a synergistic effect on the improvement of hematopoietic function in mice with cyclophosphamide-induced leukopenia.

Based on the fact that the amount of IL -6 in peritoneal exudate cells (PEC), spleen cells and bone marrow cells (BMCs) treated with cyclophosphamide and SCG*** is higher than that treated with cyclophosphamide alone, and in vitro, adding SCG to the culture medium of PEC cells and spleen cells treated with CY can promote the secretion of IL -6, Harada also speculated that IL -6 may be the hematopoietic function of mice with leukopenia caused by SCG. Hericium erinaceus not only has the above functional components, but also has antiviral, collagen production promoting, antibacterial and other functional components.
