Shi Yanlu, whose common name is Lin Qinghua, was born in 1970 in a martial arts family in Tancheng County, Linyi City, Shandong Province. His parents hoped that he could be admitted to Tsinghua University when he grew up, so he was named Tsinghua University. Later, he became a monk in Shaolin Temple and studied under the abbot Master Shi Yongxin. In his own words, Shaolin Temple is the Tsinghua University in Buddhism. From then on, Lin Qinghua became Shi Yanlu.

As soon as Shi Yanlu entered the Shaolin Temple, the abbot sent him to a small temple in Junxian County, Henan Province to practice hard. There were only three old monks on the mountain, cutting firewood for cooking and reading Buddhist scriptures. After nearly a year, Lin Qinghua was shaken and decided to go home. Later, after some ideological struggle, Shi Yanlu went to Shaolin Temple again.
The master sent Shi Yanlu to study at the ancient Guanyin Temple in Kaifeng. In 1987, because he was "influenced by eminent monks", Lin Qinghua decided to become a monk. The temple held a grand conversion ceremony for him. Lin Qinghua became Shi Yanlu, studied under Shi Yongxin, and became the 34th generation martial artist of Shaolin Temple. monk.
In 1998, Shi Yanlu participated in the World Martial Arts Congress held in Toronto, Canada and won the gold medal. In the same year, the Shaolin Temple established a martial monk corps, with Shi Yanlu serving as the chief instructor.
