Yuanjiang carp is an important male parent material for various hybrid carps in my country. It has been introduced in many places across the country and is a well-known fish in the country.

Morphological characteristics: The side of the body is flat and tall, slightly oval, the head is small, slightly pointed, the mouth is in a lower position, the upper jaw is more protruding than the lower jaw, 2 pairs of barbels, larger scales, and a more developed axilla at the base of the pelvic fin scale. When fresh, the lower leaf of the tail fin is red and the even fins are light red, so it is locally called red-tailed carp.

Life habits: Omnivorous and partial to carnivorous fish, the main food is benthic oligochaeta, and also feeds on insect larvae, snails and small crustaceans.
