The current emblem of Manchester City Club was officially adopted in 1997 because the previous emblem could not be registered as a trademark. The current emblem consists of a shield and a golden eagle. The golden eagle is taken from the city emblem of Manchester. The ship on the shield represents the Manchester Grand Canal. The three slashes below represent the three rivers of Manchester. Below the emblem is The club's Latin motto "Superbia in Proelio", translated into English is "Pride in Battle", which means "Pride on the battlefield". Above the eagle are three stars. These three stars do not symbolize three championships or anything like that, but just Just add a more continental feel to the emblem
