The art of decorating textiles with needles and threads. The basic techniques are cross stitch, double thread work and quilting. Persians and Greeks wore quilted clothes as armor. The earliest existing embroidery is Skeeter embroidery (about 5th-3rd century BC). The most famous living example in China is the royal silk robe of the Qing Dynasty (1644–19112). Islamic embroidery (16-17th century) shows stylized geometric patterns based on animal and plant shapes. Until the Renaissance, Nordic embroidery was mostly religious. In the 8th century17-/KLOC-0, European skills and customs prevailed in North America. Indians embroidered hides and barks with dyed porcupines; Later, the beads they got in the trade replaced the quill pens. The indigenous people in Central America made an embroidery with feathers. Bayeux tapestry is the most famous embroidery in existence.
