Fang Tingben’s father was fond of wine and was a close relative of Master Zheng. When he was 8 years old, his father sent him to the Zheng family to learn the art from his master. He became the seventh generation disciple of Zheng’s traditional brewing technology and was clearly regarded as a closed disciple ( Known locally as "Yao Disciple"), Fang Tingben became the last direct descendant of Zheng's brewing technology.

In 1978, 16-year-old Fang Tingben was assigned to make wine at Maotai Distillery. In 1984, Fang Tingben, who had mastered Zheng's brewing technology and accumulated practical experience, left Moutai Distillery and opened his own brewing workshop in Maotai Town.
