Shiming Village, located in the west of Yan Xi Town, is a mountain village with beautiful environment and rich products. Shiming village focuses on the development of pollution-free vegetable planting and fresh water three-dimensional planting. The village grows more than 2,000 mu of vegetables such as taro, cucumber, carob and edamame every year, with an output of more than 5,000 tons. Shi Ming taro, a tribute of Tang Dynasty, is a specialty of our village. Taro with stone nameplate has passed the expert certification of National Green Food Center. Shiming trademark was awarded as a well-known trademark in Zhangzhou.
Shiming taro is produced in Shiming Village, Yan Xi Town, Changtai-at the foot of Lianggang Mountain with an altitude of119 meters. Here underground mineral water gurgles, the water quality is sweet and mellow, the soil layer is deep and rich in minerals. The skin of areca taro is purple, the meat is tender, crisp and delicious, with rich aroma and unique flavor. The planting area of betel nut taro in Shiming village is large, with an annual output of 1000 tons. Shiming betel nut taro is famous far and near, especially for the urban residents in Xiamen and Zhangzhou.
According to folklore, Qianlong went down to the south of the Yangtze River and passed through Zhangzhou to find local food. Changtai county magistrate brought a famous chef, pork elbow and a grain of Shiming taro, and went to yamen to make a "pork elbow taro pot", which made Emperor Qianlong feel very happy and praised. Since then, the humble Taro Shimizu has been appointed as a tribute, which is specially transported to ouchi every year. Another feature of Shiming taro is that it is steamed and mashed, added with sugar, accompanied by spices such as orange peel and sweet-scented osmanthus, and simmered with warm fire, and the attractive "taro paste" can be enjoyed.
