Trademark exclusive rights are territorial. In which country or region it is registered, you can only get protection there. In order to obtain protection abroad, you need to register abroad to obtain protection there. Currently, there are two ways to register a trademark abroad: one is to apply for international registration through the Madrid Agreement; the other is to apply for country-by-country registration.
First, Madrid trademark international registration. On October 4, 1989, my country officially became a member of the Madrid Agreement on Trademark Registration. From that date, China began to process Madrid international trademark registrations, also known as international trademark registrations. This is a new channel opened to facilitate Chinese enterprises to register trademarks abroad. The main features of this channel are saving time, effort and money. Judging from my country's current and future economic development, this channel is very suitable for Chinese companies to register trademarks abroad. However, there are still very few members of the Madrid Agreement. Therefore, when applying for trademark registration in other countries, you must apply one by one.
Second, register country by country. Country-by-country registration means that Chinese enterprises go to foreign countries to register their trademarks one by one. The channel of country-by-country registration has not only played a great role in the past, but will also play a significant role now and in the future.
