It's legal not to type. R is a registered trademark mark, and tm generally refers to the trademark mark being applied for. These marks can be printed on the product or not used. If there is no mark on the product trademark, it may be that there is no registered trademark, or it may be that the registration is not marked. You don't have to use or mark.
