In 1954, Garrett established the Air Research and Industrial Department, specializing in the design and manufacturing of turbochargers.

In 1961, Garrett made the first attempt in the automotive industry to apply a turbocharger to a car.

In the subsequent development, Garrett gradually developed into the most famous turbocharger manufacturer in the world.

In 1999, Garrett was merged into Honeywell, but the supercharger products still use the Garrett trademark.
