Extended information
Sihui, the origin of tribute tangerine, is located in the west-central part of Guangdong Province, within the Pearl River Delta. The Tropic of Cancer crosses the area, with an average annual temperature of 20 to 23°C. The average frost-free period is 360 days, the average precipitation is 1450-1800mm, the annual average relative humidity is 83%, and the soil is mostly mountain yellow soil and red soil.
Temperature is the limiting factor in tribute tangerine cultivation, which is related to the survival of the plant as well as its yield and quality. The optimum temperature for the growth of tribute tangerine has not yet been determined, but judging from the geographical range of its origin, the optimum temperature for growth is relatively high, in areas with an annual average temperature of 20 to 23°C and winter temperatures rarely below -2 to -1°C. , which can best exert its high yield and high quality. In high-temperature areas, the fruit has a high sugar-to-acid ratio, a sweeter taste, more juice, soft pulp, and thinner skin; in low-temperature areas, the opposite is true.
Gonggan is native to summer wet areas with abundant rainfall, and has a large annual water demand. Generally, the annual rainfall is about 1500mm. The later stage of fruit development is from October to December, which has less rainfall. In the dry season, water needs to be replenished in time. Compared with Sugar Orange, another main variety grown in Guangdong Province, the fruit quality of Gonggan is more sensitive to rainfall from October to December.
