The confusing historical truth and the unknown past events. Welcome to Dagu's historic house of wonders.
After "Yongle Dadian" was compiled, it was collected in Wenyuan Pavilion in Nanjing.
Today, more than 600 years have passed, and there are only about 800 volumes and about 400 volumes of "Yongle Dadian" worldwide.
This number is less than 4 in the original book, so how did the remaining 96 get lost?
Since the "Yongle Dadian" was hidden in a forbidden area deep in the palace, records about it are rarely seen in the history books of the Ming Dynasty, and the whereabouts of the "Yongle Dadian" have become a mystery.
However, from the sporadic introduction of historical records, such a process can probably be sorted out. In the 19th year of Yongle, the Forbidden City in Beijing was completed, and Emperor Yongle moved the capital here.
At this time, the original manuscript of "Yongle Dadian" was still hidden in Wenyuan Pavilion in Nanjing, and was destroyed in a palace fire in the mid-Ming Dynasty. The original copy was brought to Beijing by Emperor Yongle and hidden in Wenzhao Pavilion in the palace.
During the reign of Emperor Hongzhi, the "Yongle Dadian" was consulted. In the thirty-sixth year of Jiajing's reign, there was a fire in the palace. The three main halls of the Forbidden City were burned down, and the "Yongle Dadian" also narrowly encountered misfortune.
According to historical records, "Yongle Dadian" is a treasure that Emperor Jiajing "loved as a special treasure". Since he came to the throne, he has always regarded it as a necessary reference classic and often quoted it at the court.
During this fire, Jiajing hurriedly went to the Wenlou to rush to transport the "Dadian" and issued the edict three or four times in one night, which shows the importance of the "Dadian" in his heart. At that time, Emperor Jiajing intended to "rerecord one part and store it somewhere else to prepare for emergencies."
In the autumn of the eleventh year of Jiajing, the copying work began, which lasted for six years and was not completed until the first year of Longqing. In this way, "Yongle Dadian" has two parts: the main part and the deputy part. But after the fall of the Ming Dynasty, the original copy of the "Dadian" mysteriously disappeared.
During the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, in order to compile the "Sikuquanshu", the imperial court vigorously searched for the "Yongle Dadian", and finally found traces of it, but by this time more than 1,000 volumes had been lost.
After Daoguang, "Yongle Dadian" was regarded as useless, and some officials took the opportunity to steal it. The books stolen by Qing officials were sold by their descendants, to foreigners or antique dealers. In this way, "Yongle Dadian" spread to the public in large numbers.
In the twenty-sixth year of Guangxu's reign, the Eight-Power Allied Forces invaded Beijing. They burned, killed, looted, and committed all kinds of evil in Beijing. The Hanlin Academy was also turned into a battlefield, and the war was raging. After this disaster, "Yongle Dadian" was completely lost, and the remaining hundreds of copies were scattered around the world. Only more than 60 copies remained in China.
In modern wars, these more than 60 volumes of "Yongle Dadian" were transferred many times to avoid the flames of war.
A part that was once kept by the Library of Congress was transferred to Taiwan, China in 1965 and is now in the National Palace Museum in Taipei, China. The part of "Yongle Dadian" that was not shipped to the United States was shipped back to Beijing after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, some individuals who had possession of the remaining copies of the "Grand Canon" donated one after another. In addition, 52 volumes were returned by the State Library of the Soviet Union and 3 volumes were returned by the German Democratic Republic. At present, China The National Library's collection of "Yongle Dadian" has reached 221 volumes, which is the largest collection among all collections in the world.
To this day, the original copy of "Yongle Dadian" has still not been found, but people still have the best hope, hoping that the original copy of "Yongle Dadian" was not burned in the fire, but hidden deep in a secret. A place waiting for future generations to discover.
