I have a jug of wine, enough to soothe the dust! Every page of Chinese history books seems to be filled with the mellow aroma of fine wine. It uses bronze as a container, ferments with time, uses characters as booze, and uses culture to connect ancient and modern times! Today, we will take a look at the various "ancient wines" unearthed in archeology so far. Can you drink a cup without it?
Taking time as the axis, counting from the oldest period to today, there are 7 examples of ancient wines that have been reported:
1. Wuyang Jiahu Wine (from 9,000 years ago)
The Jiahu bone flute appeared on the stage of national treasures, making Jiahu, an early Neolithic site, famous all over the world. But who would have thought that it was just the alcohol residue on a few pottery pieces? Research has actually rewritten the history of Chinese winemaking! This makes it advance from the Yangshao culture of 6,000 years ago to 9,000 years ago!
In 2004, an American archaeologist named McGovern discovered traces of ancient wine in the fragments of Wuyang Jiahu pottery and extracted samples, and assayed for honey, Ingredients such as hawthorn, beeswax made from grapes, and rice were used to crack the winemaking formula.
After that, he handed over the recipe of ancient Chinese wine to the Dog Shark Head Brewery in Delaware, USA. The latter followed the same method and produced a new beer called Chateau Jiahu, and Registered trademark.
Jiacheng Lake wine, alcohol content 8%, 750ml, priced at US$12!
As for the taste? A netizen left a message saying: "The first thing you taste is the sweet taste from honey, then the spiciness will suddenly pop up, and then the grape taste." ?Another netizen said:?The rich honey flavor makes me think it is not an ordinary beer, but more like mead. ?
It has to be heartbreaking that ancestral relics are carried forward in the hands of foreigners. This is an important loss of Chinese cultural heritage!
2. Baoji Shigushan Wine (3,000 years ago)
In 2012, archaeologists discovered one of the bronze handles while excavating the Shang and Zhou noble cemetery in Shigushan, Baoji It's unusual. When it was gently shaken, there was the sound of water, maybe it was wine!
Because among the wine vessels of the Shang and Zhou dynasties, the Tibei Liang was specially used to hold wine, and among the bronze vessels produced with it, there was also a "Bronze Forbidden", which was a prohibition vessel, which greatly confirmed that the Tibei was a wine vessel. The possibility of wine being in the blood!
3. Xi'an Wenjing Road Wine (2000 years ago)
In 2003, during the construction of Wenjing Road in the northern suburbs of Xi'an, a bronze vessel named ?A gilt copper bell with phoenix and bird patterns, containing 26 kilograms of fine wine from the Western Han Dynasty!
This is the ancient wine with the largest known inventory. This cultural relic and wine are now stored in Xi'an Museum and are its treasures!
As for the taste, when it was opened, the aroma overflowed, which surprised experts. They thought that the fine wine of the Western Han Dynasty at that time should be rice wine!
4. Liaoning Yemaotai Wine (916? 1125 AD)
In 1974, two white items were discovered under the wooden table in the southeast corner of the Liao Dynasty tomb in Yemaotai, Faku, Liaoning. One of the porcelain pouring kettles is much heavier than the normal pouring kettle. The spout of the pot is closed, but when shaken gently, it emits a crisp liquid sound! Archaeological experts concluded that it might be wine.
As for the taste, the wine was light yellow with reddish color. Feng Yongqian, an archaeological expert at the time, had the courage to take a sip. It had a slightly earthy smell! ?, Later, after testing, it was found that there was a trace amount of ethanol in it, so it was undoubtedly wine! The discovery of Ye Maotai wine is the first time in the archaeological history of the Liao Dynasty!
5. Wine from the Tomb of the King of Zhongshan (2300 years ago)
The King of Zhongshan here is not the ancestor of Uncle Liu Huang that we are familiar with? Liu Sheng, Prince Jing of Zhongshan, but Zhongshan during the Warring States Period country!
In 1978, during excavations in Pingshan, a square copper pot with inscriptions on all sides was discovered, with the words "King of Zhongshan" clearly written on it! It is clearly recorded in the inscription: This square pot was a wine vessel made by the King of Zhongshan under the command of his prime minister. It was engraved with his military exploits in attacking Yan and seizing the city, and was used to worship heaven and ancestors!
There is only half a bottle of wine left in the pot, weighing about 3 kilograms, and is dark green in color!
6. Shandong Yantai Liquor (more than 2,000 years ago)
In 2013, during the excavation of the Han Dynasty tombs in Sansanlibao, Yantai, three complete wines were discovered in the M73 tomb. Clay pots, one of which has its mouth sealed by the bottom of a broken pot above.
After opening, the liquid inside is very clear and has no smell. However, after testing, it was found that there was indeed a small amount of ethanol in the liquid, so it must be wine. It is rare for wine in pottery jars from the Han Dynasty to be preserved to this day!
7. Konggang New City Wine (more than 2,000 years ago)
Finally, this pot of Qin people's "aged wine" comes from the land of Sanqin! Why can this jug of wine be well preserved? Because when this copper pot was unearthed, it was found that the mouth was tied with burlap with plant strips, so its good sealing provides the possibility of preserving the wine in the pot.
The liquid stored in the copper pot is about 300 ml. It is almost milky white in color, transparent and pure. It contains various amino acids and is wine!
In addition to the fine wine, there is also a gleaming copper sword in the Wuyue style, and the gap in the sword body proves the bloody war.
Although the ancient wine is aged, don’t be greedy!
