The design of obstacle eliminator refers to the design of "SE" of the first generation romantic express 3000 series of Oda Express and the obstacle eliminator of Japan Railway 15 1 series, and then it is strengthened. At the beginning, it was made of steel like the car body, and the 22nd batch of cars were made of aluminum [K 1].

The inverted L-shaped thin iron plate above the cab is an electrostatic discharge bar, which can also detect the voltage of overhead cables [K 2].
