Brief introduction and test of 5-port USB power converter for ORICO 36W vehicle.

Wolf University recently launched a good USB power converter for vehicles.

It looks very easy to use ~ ~ ~ theoretically, a full car can satisfy everyone's mobile phone.

It's just ... what about the driving recorder?

Without discussing this issue, let's take a look at the introduction of Wolf University.

Not only mobile phone tablets, but also more and more devices are charging through USB. If you want to charge in the car, the traditional USB power converter with clicker has only one or two outputs, and the equipment is not enough for a long time. Therefore, some manufacturers have introduced five sets of USB output power converters for vehicles, which can provide a maximum total output power of 36W(5V 7A). The following is a brief introduction to the 5-port USB power converter of ORICO MPU-5S model and its test.

The outer box is a khaki paper box, with a white color printing coat, printed with brand name, product name and model, as well as a photo of the power converter.

On the back of the coat, there are information about the product name and manufacturer, and there are serial numbers and barcodes for management.

Take off the white coat, and the brand trademark is printed on the inner carton.

List of internal accessories, including warranty card, instruction manual, power converter body in plastic bag and power cord of cigarette lighter.

Matte black fuselage shell is made of plastic, and there is a blue power indicator on the left side of the upper cover. There are five groups of USB A sockets, which are divided into three groups of Universal(U) universal outlets and two groups of Super Charger(S) enhanced outlets.

The DC round hole socket for power switch and power input is designed at the back, and it should be noted that it can only be used on vehicles with 12V system.

Attach a set of connecting wires to turn the cigarette lighter into a DC round head plug for the car.

The metal cover on the front end can be removed, which contains the positive conductive cap, protective fuse and spring, but the rated fuse of 10A is too big for this power converter.

The lighter plug has a built-in reed, and the positive reed is designed as a sleeve, which helps to fix the spring and fuse and avoid poor contact caused by shaking.

In the internal structure diagram, the green frame is AX3 12 1 3.5A synchronous buck IC and inductor, with two groups of * * *, three groups of USB ports marked with Universal(U) are provided on the left, two groups of USB ports marked with Super Charger(S) are provided on the right, and the red frame is UC2635 USB identification IC, which can provide different charging definitions for the equipment to consider as original.

It can be seen that the output voltage is slightly different due to the separation of the two internal buck circuits. In addition, the universal (U) port only has the charging definition of DCP 5V 1.5A with D+/D- direct short circuit, while the charger (S) port has the identification IC, and its initial state is Apple 2. 1A charging definition, so the D+/D- voltage distribution can be changed according to the connected equipment.

LG G2 is charged through the universal (U) port, and the charging current can reach the charging level of the original charger.

LG G2 is charged through the super charger (S) port, and the charging current can reach the charging level of the original charger.

Apple iPad2 is charged through the universal (U) port. Because there is only the definition of DCP 5V 1.5A, the iPad2 cannot be recognized as an original charger, so the charging current is limited to a relatively low 0.95A.

Apple iPad2 is charged through the Super Charger(S) port, and the internal identification IC makes iPad2 think it is an original charger, so the charging current can be increased.

The conversion efficiency of universal (U) port, with the highest efficiency in the range of 2A, can reach 87.99%.

The port conversion efficiency of the super charger (S) is 87.64%, with the highest efficiency in the range of1.5a..

In addition, in the standby current part, even if no equipment is connected after starting, the host will consume about 46mA, while it will consume 3mA when turning off.

General (u) port output load test, when the total output current exceeds 3.7A, the output will be cut off, with overcurrent/load protection.

The output load test of the super charger port shows that when the total output current exceeds 3.6A, the output will be cut off, with overcurrent/load protection.

Draw 2.5A current for the universal (U) port and the super charger (S) port respectively.

After a period of time, the infrared thermal imager shows that the main heat is concentrated in two groups of synchronous buck circuit areas.

Advantages:

1. Independent power switch design.

2. The cigarette lighter plug has a solid structure and fuse design.

3. Two groups of buck circuits supply power to different USB ports respectively, which has certain conversion efficiency and overcurrent/load protection.

Disadvantages:

1. can only be used on 12V system vehicles.

2. There is no additional fuse, polarity reversal and transient voltage absorption (TVS) protection for the board end power input, and the fuse at the igniter 10A plug end is too large.

3. The plastic casing cannot effectively conduct the internal working temperature.

4. Five groups of USB ports can be equipped with identification IC to increase the activity of use.
