Jilantai Salt Lake is one of the inland medium-sized salt lakes in China, located in Jilantai Town, Alashan, Zuo Qi, north of Bayanhaote Town102km. "Jilantai" is Mongolian, which means sixty. The salt layer of the salt lake covers an area of 60 square kilometers, and the whole lake is oval. The average thickness of salt layer is 3-5 meters, and the thickest part is nearly 6 meters. The salt produced here, commonly known as "Ji Yan", is famous for its large particles, few impurities and strong taste.

Jilantai Salt Lake has been mined since the first year of Qianlong in Qing Dynasty (1736) and has a history of 269 years. Salt Lake was originally owned by Wang Ye in Alashan and Shuote Banner, and was nationalized on 1950. The landscape of Jilantai Salt Lake is a rare tourist resource in China.
