How to identify the authenticity of Thai fragrant rice

On July 21, 2010, Hu Lili, director of the Commercial Section of the Thai Consulate General in Guangzhou, told the media: "More than 90% of the Thai fragrant rice packaged in China is fake Thai fragrant rice."

Industry insiders admit that Thai fragrant rice is an internationally registered trademark and can only be authentic if grown in the country of origin in Thailand. However, many people on the market currently use Jiangxi "923" rice with a similar appearance as fake rice. The appearance of Jiangxi "923" rice is very similar to Thai fragrant rice. The current market price is 1.90 yuan/jin, while the cost price of authentic Thai fragrant rice is 3.85 yuan/jin, and the retail price is more than 5 yuan/jin. Any price lower than this is definitely shoddy.

There are currently three main ways to "inject water" into Thai fragrant rice on the market: one is to fake it during the packaging process; the other is to use domestic long-grain rice to directly pass it off as Thai fragrant rice; and the third is to use domestic long-grain rice to directly pass it off as Thai fragrant rice. The three ways, and the worst way, is to directly fake it, spraying food essence on the white rice to make the white rice emit a strong fragrance and pass it off as fragrant rice.

Director Hu Lili said that there are two types of Thai fragrant rice sold in the Chinese market, one is imported in original packaging, and the other is imported in original large packaging and then repackaged in China. Some sub-packaged Thai fragrant rice products are sometimes adulterated with other rice in order to gain greater profits. Chinese merchants are accustomed to importing Thai fragrant rice into original packaging for large packaging and separate packaging for small packaging. At present, in the Chinese market, almost all 10kg and 20kg products are original products, while most products below 5kg are repackaged. However, according to current technology, if you need to check the authenticity of jasmine rice, you can only use DNA testing, which is difficult to operate and has a "blind spot" in supervision. Thailand has been in communication with relevant departments to this end and will find ways to cooperate with the industrial and commercial departments to supervise the market.

When identifying, please note that the original package of Thai jasmine rice has the following characteristics: the packaging is printed with the mark registered by the Thai Foreign Trade Department, the purity of Thai jasmine rice is not less than 92; the packaging is printed with "Product of Thailand" ( Made in Thailand); the trademark barcode starts with "885".

After the importer imports Thai jasmine rice in original large packaging, it is then packaged for transportation, storage and sales. The outer packaging of the repackaged Thai jasmine rice is printed with the "QS" logo, and the trademark bar code starts with "69". Consumers can eat Thai jasmine rice with confidence. The packaging is printed with "C.C.I.C (THAILAND) CO., LTD." or "C.C.I.C (THAILAND) CO., LTD." 1. It is elongated, the germ has no white spots, and the whole is translucent;

2. Grain shape Neat and consistent, the average length of the rice grains is not less than 7 mm, and the average width is not less than 3 mm;

3. Pure white beige color, clear, and contains a unique pandan leaf fragrance. For consumers, it is recommended to buy authentic and original Thai rice. For fragrant rice, you must recognize the three major logos.

1. The green circular logo registered by the Department of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand is a green circular icon with three golden lines inside. The ears of rice are printed with the English words "Thai Hom Mali Rice" for jasmine rice;

2. The original imported Thai fragrant rice trademark barcode starts with 885, and the barcode that starts with 69 is domestically packaged;

3. Authentic fragrant rice has the words "Product or Thailand" (produced in Thailand). Common domestic rice is divided into indica rice and japonica rice. Indica rice has slender grains and is similar to Thai fragrant rice, but The taste is different. In addition, the moisture content of Thai fragrant rice is lower than that of Chinese rice, and its shelf life can be up to 2 years. Therefore, Thai fragrant rice is not easy to deteriorate and is easy to store.
