"Lao Zhengxing Restaurant" was founded in the first year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1862). It is the earliest restaurant that sells Shanghai local cuisine since the opening of Shanghai. It has a history of 158 years and is one of the oldest restaurants in Shanghai. The originator of Shanghai local cuisine.
"Lao Zhengxing" was located in the former mainland shopping mall (formerly known as Buddha Store) at Lane 350, Jiujiang Road, Shanghai. Its founders were sworn brothers Zhu Zhengben and Cai Renxing, and one of them was named "Zhengxing". The word "" and "Xing" are used as the name of the store, and it is called "Zhengxing Pavilion". Later, because business was so good, some restaurants put up "Zhengxing" signs under their names, so Zhu and Cai added the word "老" in front of the word "Zhengxing". From then on, "Zhengxing Pavilion" became "Old Zhengxing Pavilion".
The earliest dishes of Lao Zhengxing focus on Shanghai-style river and seafood dishes, such as bacon louvers, grass carp tofu, fried fish noodle skin, rice intestine soup noodles, steamed buns, etc. In the course of more than 150 years of evolution, some dishes have disappeared from the menu, but Lao Zhengxing has created many new dishes and frequently won awards.
