The current Trademark Protection Law in Austria was enacted in 1970, and has been revised many times since then. The principle of pre-registration is adopted in registering Austrian trademarks. In Austria, a trademark refers to a special symbol used to distinguish the goods or services of different enterprises in the course of trade. There are commodity trademarks, service trademarks and collective trademarks that can apply for registration, and trademarks composed of any language can apply for registration.
