Is Sony Interactive Entertainment the United States or Japan?

Japan.

Sony Interactive Entertainment, formerly known as Sony Computer Entertainment, is a game console and game software development, manufacturing and sales manufacturer under Sony. It was established in Tokyo, Japan on November 16, 1993.

The unprecedented success of the FC game console produced by Nintendo prompted Sony to cooperate with Nintendo in 1988 to develop a CD-ROM console for the Super Nintendo. In May 1992, Nintendo broke the contract without notifying Sony in advance and privately switched to cooperation with Philips. The cooperation between Nintendo and Sony collapsed. Ken Kutaragi proposed a plan to develop his own game console to Sony President Norio Ohga.

Norio Ohga strongly supported Kutaragi Takeru's plan despite numerous objections. On November 16, 1993, "Sony Computer Entertainment" was founded in Tokyo by technical personnel from Sony Japan and the working team of Sony Music Japan.

With Ken Kutaragi as the president, he launched a development plan for a new generation CD-ROM game console code-named "PS-X", with the intention of fully competing against Nintendo, which dominated the video game console market at the time.

In 1994, the video game console "PlayStation", which used the 3D imaging technology of the time as a weapon, joined the hardware market and launched fierce market competition with Sega's Sega Saturn and Nintendo's Nintendo 64; also because of the popularity of the fantasy series Impact, PlayStation firmly occupied the position of the game market within 3 years after its release.

In addition, the PlayStation 2, released in 2000, still maintains its advantage in competition with Sega's Dreamcast, Nintendo's GameCube, and Microsoft's Xbox. In 2004, the portable game console PlayStation Portable was released.

In November 2006, Sony Interactive Entertainment released the PlayStation 3, which was once in decline due to slow release and expensive Blu-ray discs. But in 2011, the situation improved after Sony Interactive Entertainment released the new generation portable game console PlayStation Vita. In 2013, Sony Interactive Entertainment released PlayStation 4, which was a commercial success.

On April 1, 2016, Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment merged to form "Sony Interactive Entertainment". The headquarters moved from Japan to San Mateo, California, and the trademark continued to be the square trademark of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
