In 2011, the Emeishan Brand Emei Cake trademark was rated as a well-known trademark in Leshan City. In August 2013, the Emei cake making technique was included in the intangible cultural heritage protection list by the Emeishan Municipal People's Government as a folk handicraft.

Emei Cake, a specialty of Emeishan City, Sichuan Province, is a national geographical indication product of China. Initially, Emei cake was made from brown sugar and glutinous rice, and was called yellow sugar cake.
