In 2004, Jiaozuo Municipal Government applied to the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce for registration of the collective trademark, certification trademark and ordinary trademark of Huaiyao medicine named after the place of origin. In 2006, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China and the National Standardization Administration of China officially promulgated the national standard for geographical indication products (GB\T2035 1-2006)/ People's Republic of China (PRC) on May 25th, 2006. The origin of Chinese yam is defined as the geographical range from 3448 to-3530 north latitude and from11202 to11338 east longitude (namely, the administrative area of Jiaozuo City), which is included in the protection scope of the Regulations on the Protection of Geographical Indications, making Chinese yam and Yunnan Baiyao and Yunnan Baiyao.
