The urban temperature ranges from 0 to 29 degrees Celsius, and the annual temperature difference is the smallest in the country. Kunming is known as the "Spring City" because of its rare climate characteristics in the world. And well-known at home and abroad! The word "Kunming" as a place name was difficult to verify before the Tang Dynasty. There are many opinions on the origin of the word "Kunming". Most scholars believe that "Kunming" was originally the ethnic name of an ancient ethnic group in southwest my country. "Kunming" is written as "Kun", "Kunmi" or "Kunlin" in ancient Chinese literature. In the early days, it was not the name of a city, but the name of an ancient ethnic group living in southwest China, today's western Yunnan and southwestern Sichuan. According to records, the emergence of the word "Kunming" can be traced back to the period of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. Sima Qian, the famous historian at that time, wrote in "Historical Records·Biographies of Southwest Yi": "From the east of Tongshi (now Baoshan) in the west to Yeyu in the north, they were named Xi and Kunming. They were all braided and moved with the livestock. No matter how long you are, the place can be thousands of miles away." It can be seen that the word "Kunming" is the ethnic name of an ethnic minority in Yunnan in ancient times. "Kunming" appeared as a place name in the Tang Dynasty. "In the second year of Wude, Kunming County was established in the town, covering the land adjacent to Kunming in the south, hence the name." According to this placement of Kunming County, it is not today's Kunming, but Dingzuo Town in Sichuan (today's Yanyuan County). The reason why Dingze Town was named "Kunming" in the Tang Dynasty is clearly stated in the records. It was because it was close to Kunming. Kunming here still refers to the Kunming people. Before the Han and Tang Dynasties, most of the Kunming people settled in western Yunnan. It was not until the Nanzhao and Dali Kingdoms that the Wu and Bai barbarians arose, and the areas where the Kunming people lived were occupied by the Wu and Bai barbarians. The Kunming people then moved eastward to central Yunnan and settled around Dian Lake. In the second year of Song Baoyou's reign (1254), the Yuan Dynasty destroyed Dali and established the "Kunming Qianhusuo" in Shanchan. "Kunming" began to appear as a place name and continues to this day. The meaning of the word "Kunming" was explained by Changju of Jin Dynasty: "The Yi people are mainly from Kunming, and the small ones are from Sou." This sentence can be interpreted as the Kunming tribe with a large population.
