Extended information
Cangzhou City is located on the bank of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. It is an ancient city with a long history of wine making. It is said that during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there were many restaurants in Cangzhou, with green flags hanging high, and business was booming. And taking advantage of the canal to sell goods from the south to the north, it was a grand occasion.
Cangzhou ancient wine, also known as Magu wine, is fermented and brewed from high-quality sorghum and water from the center of the canal. It has excellent color, aroma and taste. According to the "Notes of Yuewei Thatched Cottage" written by Ji Xiaolan, a famous scholar from the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Qianlong took a boat south through the canal. When he disembarked from the boat and rested in Cangzhou, he drank "Magu wine" and appreciated it very much.
In order to resume the production of the city’s famous historical wine “Magu Wine”, the Cangzhou City Winery started trial production in 1979 and successfully launched it into production in 1981. However, the trademark has been registered in Jiangxi, so it was renamed "Yuhechun". "Yuhe" is today's canal, and "Spring" is the elegant name of the wine.
