Wang Jian was fond of military affairs when he was young and served King Qin Yingzheng. He led his army to conquer Handan, the capital of Zhao State, wiped out the three Jin areas, conquered Ji, the capital of Yan State, and destroyed Chu State. Wang Jian and his son Wang Ben became the greatest contributors to Qin Shi Huang's unification of the six kingdoms and the expansion of territory.

After unifying China, Jiliu retreated bravely and did not assist Qin Shihuang in establishing a moral government and consolidating the foundation of the country. Compared with Bai Qi, it can be said that "a ruler is shorter and an inch is longer." With his outstanding military commanding talents, he was known as the "Four Famous Generals of the Warring States Period" together with Bai Qi, Li Mu, and Lian Po. Later generations honored Wang Jian as the co-ancestor of the Langya Wang family and the Taiyuan Wang family.
