There are three main manufacturers of 8AT transmissions in the world: Germany's ZF, Japan's Aisin and South Korea's Hyundai Motor Company. Among them, the vertical 8AT was first launched by Aisin and will be installed on the Lexus LS 460 for the first time in 2021. Later, Aisin exhibited a transverse 8AT gearbox at the 2021 Paris Auto Show, but there was no matching information for related models.

Looking back at the domestic market, Shengrui and the Chemnitz University of Technology in Germany developed an 8AT automatic transmission. Starting from the initial conceptual innovation, this gearbox adopts a forward design route, filling the domestic R&D gap and the gap in the production field of automatic transmissions with 6 or more speeds. It can be said to be a milestone in the domestic gearbox industry.

For transverse gearboxes, the limited width of the engine compartment is a thorny problem, which requires the size of the gearbox to be designed as small as possible. Four gears have been added from 4AT to 8AT, and the size is still the same as the 4AT gearbox. The total weight of 87.5kg will not overload the front of the car.

The transmission ratio range of Shengrui 8AT ranges from 4.17:1 in the first gear to 0.64:1 in the eighth gear, and the speed ratio range reaches 6.5. The 7th and 8th gears are overdrive gears designed to save fuel. The maximum torque it can withstand is 300N·m. Although this value is not high, front-wheel drive models generally do not have strong power.

Shengrui 8AT uses three pairs of constant mesh gears, three planetary gears and five shifting elements to achieve more gears, higher shifting comfort and smoothness, and is faster than the 4AT transmission Tank fuel saving is nearly 16%.
