Wuliangye, a specialty product of Yibin City, Sichuan Province, is a national geographical indication product of China. Chinese liquor, represented by Wuliangye, has a brewing history of more than 4,000 years and is one of the oldest and most mysterious food manufacturing industries in the world. Wuliangye liquor is produced in Yibin, one of the top ten spirits producing areas in the world and the liquor capital of China. It is made from five types of grains: sorghum, rice, glutinous rice, wheat and corn, and is brewed using ancient craft recipes. It is the first in the world to use five kinds of grains. Liquor made from grains has a history of multi-grain solid-state brewing that has been passed down for more than a thousand years. In the production process of Wuliangye liquor, the four-character secret of "brewing, selecting, aging, and blending" was summarized and extracted. Its ancient wine cellar group began in the first year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1368). The live brewing continues to this day and is a national key point. It is a cultural relic protection unit; its traditional brewing techniques are recognized as national intangible cultural heritage. Wuliangye is a typical representative and national brand of Chinese strong-flavor liquor. It has been awarded the title of "National Famous Liquor" many times and was among the first batch to be selected into the protected list of the China-EU Geographical Indication Agreement.

On July 10, 2012, the former General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine approved the implementation of regional product protection for “Wuliangye”. In July 2019, after a retrial judgment by the Supreme People's Court (hereinafter referred to as the Supreme Court), Binhe Group's production and sales of "Jiuliangye", "Jiuliangchun" and other products were found to infringe Wuliangye's right to "Wuliangye", "Wuliangchun" and other products. Binhe Group must compensate Wuliangye for economic losses of 9 million yuan for the exclusive right to use the trademark "Liangchun". Binhe Group was also sentenced to immediately stop producing and selling liquor products marked with the words "Jiuliangchun" and "Jiuliangye" or prominently marked with the words "Jiuliangchun" and "Jiuliangye".
