"Fuzhou Jasmine Tea" was approved as a geographical indication certification trademark in 2008, and the banyan tree as the municipal tree was approved as the provincial tree of Fujian Province by the 34th Session of the Eighth Fujian Provincial People's Congress on August 28, 1997. Fuzhou has a long history of planting banyan trees. Banyan trees have been planted everywhere since the Tang and Song Dynasties, making Fuzhou famous for its banyan trees throughout history. There is banyan tree worship in Fuzhou folk beliefs, and many local gods have also emerged under the banyan trees, making Fuzhou people particularly fond of banyan trees.
