1958 July19 China and Cambodia formally established diplomatic relations. For a long time, several generations of leaders of China have established profound friendship with Cambodian King Sihanouk, laying a solid foundation for the long-term and stable development of bilateral relations.
On April 1955, Premier Zhou met Sihanouk, then head of the Cambodian government, at the Asian-African Conference in Bandung.
In 1950s and 1960s, Premier Zhou and President Liu Shaoqi led many delegations to visit Cambodia. Sihanouk visited China six times.
In 1970s and 1980s, Sihanouk stayed in China twice for a long time, leading the Cambodian people's struggle against foreign aggression and safeguarding national independence and sovereignty, which was strongly supported by the government and people of China.
From 20 10 to 12, the two countries established a comprehensive strategic partnership and bilateral relations entered a new stage of development.
Cambodia's foreign policy
Pursue an independent, peaceful, permanently neutral and non-aligned foreign policy, oppose foreign aggression and interference, and establish and develop friendly relations with all countries on the basis of the Five Principles of Peace. We advocate mutual respect for national sovereignty and the settlement of border issues with neighboring countries and disputes between countries through peaceful negotiations.
After the establishment of the new Cambodian government, it has determined the foreign policy of integrating into the international community and striving for foreign aid to develop the economy, strengthened good-neighborly and friendly cooperation with neighboring countries, and improved and developed relations with western countries and international institutions in order to win international economic assistance.
