However, before the early 1990s, tribute tangerine was only regarded as a local specialty. Since the mid-1990s, the Deqing County Party Committee and the county government have seized the opportunity to vigorously develop tribute tangerine production and built the first large-scale tribute tangerine production base in 2007. The citrus cultivation area is 8,200 hm2 and the output is about 70,000 tons. In 2004, Deqing County was awarded the title of "Hometown of Tribute Oranges in China" by the China Economic Forestry Association. In the same year, it was awarded the "Tribute Orange Origin Regional Product Certification" by the State Administration of Quality Supervision.
