Longquan was originally named Longyuan, but to avoid Li Yuan’s taboo, it was changed to Spring.
The unearthed cultural relics prove that there were human activities in Longquan during the Neolithic Age.
In the first year of Taining in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (323), it belonged to Songyang County, Yongjia County, and Longyuan Township was built.
In the third year of Tang Wude (620), Longyuan Township was renamed Longquan Township to avoid the taboo of the great ancestor Li Yuan. In the second year of Qianyuan of the Tang Dynasty (759), Longquan County was established, and the county seat was Huanghe Town (today's Longyuan Town).
In the third year of Xuanhe's reign (1121), Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty ordered all counties and towns in the world to avoid anyone with the character "dragon" in them, so it was renamed Jianchuan County. In the first year of Shaoxing in the Song Dynasty (1131), it was renamed Longquan County. In the third year of Qingyuan of the Song Dynasty (1197), part of Songyuan Township and Yanqing Township in Longquan were analyzed and placed in Qingyuan County.
In the third year of Hongwu's reign in the Ming Dynasty (1370), Qingyuan County was merged and Qingyuan County was restored in November of the thirteenth year of Hongwu's reign.
Longquan was liberated on May 13, 1949. In November 1958, Qingyuan County was incorporated.
In July 1973, Qingyuan County was reestablished. By August 1975, Long and Qing counties began to operate separate offices.
On December 26, 1990, with the approval of the State Council, Longquan County was revoked and Longquan City (county level) was established, which still belongs to the Lishui District Administrative Office.
Now Longquan City is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Lishui City, Zhejiang Province. It is located on the border of Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangxi in the southwest of Zhejiang Province. Its geographical coordinates are 27°42'~28°20' north latitude and 118° east longitude. 42'~119°25', adjacent to Wenzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone in the east and Wuyishan National Scenic Tourist Area in the west. It is the main passage from Zhejiang Province to Jiangxi and Fujian. Known as the "throat of business travel", it has always been an important trade town in the adjacent areas of Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangxi.
Longquan City is 70.25 kilometers wide from east to west and 70.80 kilometers long from north to south, with a total area of ??3,059 square kilometers and a population of 289,300 (at the end of 2013); it has jurisdiction over 8 towns, 7 townships, 4 streets, 444 administrative villages and 12 communities .
Longquan has prospered humanities since ancient times. It is not only the famous capital of celadon and the land of swords, but also the birthplace of mushroom cultivation in the world and the first township of Ganoderma lucidum in China. The city’s forest coverage rate is 84.2, and it is a national ecological demonstration zone. , National Forest City, Zhejiang Provincial Ecological City and Zhejiang Provincial Garden City, and is known as "Good Dragon Spring in the Ten Counties of Chuzhou".
