"National liquor Moutai", English is "KWEICHOWMOUTAI". "MOUTAI" is the internationally registered trademark of Moutai, not the Chinese pinyin. At first, foreigners pronounced the word "Maotai" like this. Considering that this pronunciation was already well-known internationally, they simply gave Maotai liquor this transliteration name.
In the past, when our country did not have the International Phonetic Alphabet to standardize Chinese Pinyin, the English translations of some proper nouns were written according to the pronunciation habits of foreigners, such as Beijing: PEKING, Tianjin: TIENTSIN. Nowadays, place names are standardized to be spelled using the Chinese pinyin of Chinese characters (except for Hong Kong, Macau, etc.).
Some old and conventional nouns retain their previous translations. "KWEICHOWMOUTAI" can better reflect its long famous history and international popularity.
