The predecessor of Haier Group Corporation was the "Qingdao Refrigerator General Factory" established in 1984 by the merger of two small collective factories that were on the verge of bankruptcy. In 1985, the factory introduced advanced technology and equipment from the German "Liebherr" company and produced the first generation of "four-star" refrigerators in Asia. In order to reflect the cooperation between the two parties, Haier people named the product "Qin". Island - Liebherr", and successfully designed the mascot "Haier Graphic" symbolizing Chinese and German children (now Haier Brothers).
