Trademark and patent registration management The main laws protecting industrial property rights in Finland are patent law, trademark law and design law. Finland is a member of the Social Patent Congress (CPC), and its products can enjoy patent, trademark, design and utility model protection. Finnish patents are valid for 20 years, trademarks are valid for 10 years and can be extended once, design registrations are valid for 5 years and can be extended twice, and utility model registrations are valid for 4 years and can be extended once. The National Patent Registration Office of Finland was established in 1942 and is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
