It is May, the season when ticks are active. Recently, a large number of ticks were found in a neighborhood in Beijing, and there were no casualties at all! So what we need to pay attention to is what should we do if we are bitten by a tick? How should the wound be treated? Let’s introduce it in detail below!
Wound treatment after tick bite
If unfortunately you are bitten by a tick, please seek medical treatment in time when you find it and let a surgeon handle it. Because when a tick bites, its mouthparts remain dormant in the body. Do not forcefully pull it out, otherwise the tick's head will remain in the body.
1. Tweezer extraction method
1. Look carefully at the head of the tick. Use the tweezers to get as close as possible to the tick's mouthparts while ensuring that the tweezers can grasp the tick's head tightly.
2. Keep pulling firmly in one direction, and do not shake the tick's head from side to side while holding the tweezers, because the tick is likely to bury its head deeper when stimulated.
3. If you find that the head of the tick remains after pulling it out, continue to pull it out with tweezers.
4. Wash the affected area with warm water and soap. If possible, try to clean the bite area thoroughly with rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or iodine.
2. Silk thread removal method
If you don’t have tweezers at hand, you can use this method.
1. Choose a thin but strong rope and cut a section of the rope.
2. Tie the string into a loop around the head of the tick, keeping the string as close to the skin as possible.
3. Tie the looped string tightly with both hands.
4. Grasp the thin thread and pull upward slowly and steadily. The tick's mouth will loosen the skin and pull it out.
5. Wash the affected area with warm water and soap. Use rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or iodine to clean the bite area thoroughly to prevent the spread of skin infection and disease.
3. Bank card extraction method
1. Smoothly bring the credit card close to the tick’s head.
2. Press the back of the tick with your hands.
3. Slide the bank card smoothly along the skin to the tick's mouth. After a few more attempts, the tick will exit.
4. This method is suitable for use when the tick has just contacted the skin and the head has not penetrated deeply.
4. Suffocation method
You can pour sesame oil and other vegetable oils onto the tick bite site to suffocate it and then remove it.
