1. The application fee is usually a few hundred Hong Kong dollars. Hong Kong dollars cannot be spent with ordinary debit cards, so it will be much more convenient to have a VISA card. Because the tuition fee is relatively large, it cannot be paid directly even with VISA. It is usually paid by wire transfer or using a bank account in Hong Kong.

2. You can use your parents’ VISA card, or you can apply for a supplementary card.

3. I (my family) applied for a VISA card at that time just to pay the application fee, so I applied for a RMB and Hong Kong dollar dual currency card. The specifics of this issue are not very clear.

4. There is no handling fee for card payments. Most banks offer withdrawals, and some private banks also provide fee-free withdrawals. When using a debit card, the debit is directly converted into RMB according to the current exchange rate. It seems to be more troublesome to use a credit card, and the settlement is unified at the end of the month. There is no handling fee, but it is said that a debit card will be more convenient, and it is a bit unreasonable to use a credit card without a password... But the credit card can also be swiped through the UnionPay channel instead of the VISA channel, and the deduction method is the same as a debit card.

5. After arriving in Hong Kong, you will usually open a local bank account in Hong Kong. Students have many discounts, and many banks waive annual fees and so on.
