First, if the cardholder has other credit cards of the same issuing bank, the points in the cancelled card can be transferred to the credit card still in use by the Bank, except for a few credit cards with special rights.

Second, if the bank doesn't have a credit card and has more points, you can choose to redeem the points for gifts before returning the card.
