Powder corn is soft and horse-tooth-shaped, with higher starch content than gum corn, larger silty endosperm cells, round starch grains, high specific gravity of amylose, low protein content, loose structure and opaque shape. Generally, the dried corn in Northeast China is mostly powdery corn, which is easy to crush, and the cut or bitten part is white powder, which has obvious effect on the utilization rate of livestock. The feed for suckling pigs should be powdered corn, which is easy to gelatinize and has good palatability.

Colloidal corn (flint corn) is hard and shiny, half-dentate, with bulk density above 690 g/L, relatively low starch content, high amylopectin content, small horny endosperm cells, small and polygonal starch grains, and protein between starch grains, so the tissue is dense and translucent; The crude protein content is higher than that of powdered corn, but it is mostly keratin, which is difficult for livestock to use. Colloidal corn kernels are large and full, and are not easy to crush. After crushing, it is granular, with uniform particle size and poor taste, but with high riboflavin content, which is suitable for poultry feed, especially for laying hens. The characters of Hebei, Henan and Shandong are mostly colloidal corn, and the yield is relatively higher than that of silty corn.
