Gastric acid caused by progesterone
Progesterone relaxes the cardia at the top of the stomach, causing a small amount of gastric acid to flow upward into the esophagus, sometimes accompanied by partially digested food. Stomach acid, heartburn and indigestion during pregnancy are all caused by progesterone.
Adjust eating habits
Eating less and eating more can prevent the stomach from being full and push the diaphragm up. Try to eat staple food for lunch and eat early for dinner, so that your body has time to digest food before going to bed. Avoid spicy, greasy, fried foods and other foods that can cause symptoms. Sugar, tea, coffee and some food additives may also worsen your stomach acid and heartburn during pregnancy.
Bedtime posture
Lying down and relaxing after a meal can easily cause food reflux and aggravate the symptoms of gastric acid during pregnancy. So it's best to sit up straight for a while. You may find that in the late pregnancy, when the situation is serious, you have to rely on two or three pillows to sleep at night.
Precautions for drinking water
Don't drink water when eating, which also has the effect of preventing gastric acid and heartburn during pregnancy. Because water will dilute your gastric juice, which will weaken digestion. However, be sure to drink water between meals.
Selection of herbal tea
Herbal teas such as mint help digestion, but don't drink too much other teas that claim to help digestion, such as fennel tea.
