At present, debit cards of major banks and most commercial banks are 19 digits, and credit cards are 16 digits, but there are some differences, such as debit cards of China Merchants Bank, Huaxia Bank, China CITIC Bank and Industrial Bank are 18 digits.
The first six digits of a bank card are the issuer's identification number (BIN), which is the identification number of a card given to the issuer by the credit card organization. This number can provide information including which credit card organization this card belongs to, which bank this card was issued by, and what card this card is.
Cards issued by "China UnionPay" must start with 62, while those using Visa credit cards in China will start with 4, and those using Matercard will generally start with 5 1, 52, 53, 54 and 55.
The meaning of each number in the bank card number:
The first six digits are: Issuer Identification Number (IIN).
Note: IIN has been used to replace the previous bank identification number (BIN).
The first number is the major industry identifier (MII).
● The middle number is: personal account number identification (starting from the seventh digit of the card number).
The middle number is customized by the issuing bank and generally consists of 6- 12 digits. You can use at most 12 digits.
Every bank has different rules for identifying individual account numbers. Some banks will include code information such as branches, sub-branches and savings outlets in this part. Some banks may not be so detailed and will use natural serial numbers.
● The last bit is the check bit.
Use Luhn algorithm to calculate the number in front of the card number as the last digit of the credit card or debit card.
