Bank cards with the UnionPay logo, whether debit cards or credit cards, can be used to make purchases at local POS machines with the UnionPay logo in Hong Kong, and withdraw cash from ATM machines. Cash withdrawals require handling fees.
The difference is that with a debit card, you deposit money into the card first, and then you can use the debit card once you have the money; with a credit card, the bank lends you money in advance, but you swipe the card first to spend or withdraw cash, and then you can use it after it expires. Return it to the bank as required. There is a certain interest-free period for credit card purchases, but there is no interest-free period for credit card cash withdrawals.
