Sun Yat-sen University is located in Guangdong Province, which is at the forefront of reform and opening up. Located on the banks of the Pearl River and the South China Sea. There are four campuses with a total area of 6.17 square kilometers. Guangzhou South Campus covers an area of 1.17 square kilometers, North Campus covers an area of .39 square kilometers, Guangzhou East Campus covers an area of 1.13 square kilometers, and Zhuhai Campus covers an area of 3.48 square kilometers. Sun Yat-sen University is a famous university with a fine tradition of running schools. In 1924, the great man of the century, Dr. Sun Yat-sen, personally founded this university, and personally wrote the motto: "erudition, interrogation, deliberation, discernment and perseverance". The original school was named National Guangdong University. In 1926, it was renamed National Sun Yat-sen University in memory of Mr. Sun Yat-sen. In the 193s, Sun Yat-sen University had seven colleges, including arts, science, law, engineering, agriculture, medicine and teachers' training. In 1935, he set up a research institute and began to recruit graduate students. In the 195s, with the adjustment of colleges and universities in China, Sun Yat-sen University became a comprehensive university based on arts and sciences. Since the founding of New China, Sun Yat-sen University has been one of the key universities in China, and it is also one of the first batch of units granting doctoral and master's degrees and establishing the first batch of post-doctoral research mobile stations in China. In September 2, the Zhuhai Campus of Sun Yat-sen University was built in Tangjiawan, Zhuhai, which laid a solid foundation for the development of the new century. On October 26th, 21, Sun Yat-sen University and Sun Yat-sen Medical University merged to form a new Sun Yat-sen University, with more complete disciplines and stronger school-running strength.

Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences, formerly known as Boji Medical College, was founded in 1866. It is the earliest institution of western medicine in China, where Dr. Sun Yat-sen studied medicine and engaged in revolutionary activities. In 1936, Boji Medical Hall developed into Lingnan University Medical College. In 1953, the Medical College of Sun Yat-sen University and the Medical College of Lingnan University merged to form South China Medical College, and in 1954, Guangdong Guanghua Medical College merged. The school was renamed Guangzhou Medical College and Zhongshan Medical College successively. In 1985, it was renamed Zhongshan Medical University, and gradually developed into a multi-college medical university, with remarkable achievements in medical genetics, ophthalmology, oncology, parasitology, internal medicine nephrology, organ transplantation, infectious liver diseases, biomedical engineering and molecular medicine.

Sun Yat-sen University has a long history and profound academic tradition. The history of Sun Yat-sen University is linked with a group of master professors and scholars. Since its establishment, the school has continuously recruited famous teachers, such as Lu Xun, Guo Moruo, Feng Youlan, Fu Sinian, Zhao Yuanren, Gu Jiegang, Zhou Gucheng, Yu Pingbo, Chen Yinque, Cen Zhongmian, Huang Xianfan, Jiang Lifu and other famous experts and scholars at home and abroad have taught at Sun Yat-sen University. At present, Sun Yat-sen University is a comprehensive university covering humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, technical sciences, engineering, medicine, pharmacy and management sciences, and it is an important cultural and academic center of China in the south. The school has 33 colleges (real systems) and 89 undergraduate majors. It has six national basic scientific research and talent training bases, including philosophy, China language and literature, history, physics, chemistry and biology, among which 25 undergraduate majors are provincial-level famous brands. The school also has a national college students' cultural quality education base and the first college students' sports training base in China. There are four affiliated general hospitals, including the First Affiliated Hospital, the Second Affiliated Hospital (Sun Yixian Memorial Hospital), the Third Affiliated Hospital and the Fifth Affiliated Hospital (Zhuhai Hospital), and three specialized hospitals, including Zhongshan Eye Center (including eye hospital), Cancer Prevention Center (including tumor hospital) and Guanghua Stomatological Hospital.
