the status quo and tasks of the research on Gao's surname
Dear leaders, distinguished guests and clansmen:
Today, clansmen from all provinces gather together to celebrate a landmark event in the history of Gao's surname: the History and Culture Research Society of Gao's surname was born. My dream of ten years has finally come true. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks and respect to all the clansmen present! I am especially grateful to the Wenzhou clan who gave selfless dedication and the Xiamen clan who gave encouragement and support from beginning to end.
I also want to throw a pot of cold water on you, reminding you that you have a long way to go!
First, the status quo of the research on Gao's surname
I began to devote myself to the data collection, field investigation and writing of Gao's history in 1993, when I first proposed the establishment of a research society on Gao's history and culture; This year, under the infection and appeal of young online clansmen who are eager to find their roots, I returned to the mountain to devote myself to the study of the history of Gao, and once again advocated the establishment of a research society.
in this process, on the one hand, it has received warm response and active support from many old, middle-aged and young clansmen all over the country and overseas; On the other hand, I feel that this support is not very extensive, and many celebrities I contacted twice, including scholars, lacked response. It should be said that those who really took practical actions, went to the meeting thousands of miles, and contributed money are not very enthusiastic. Compared with many other surnames, the clan feelings and cohesion of our Gao group are not very strong. This is no accident.
I visited all parts of the country, consulted local documents and archives, and went deep into the countryside to investigate folk genealogy and legends, hoping to find a national genealogy left over from history like some other surnames. However, as said in the genealogy of Hakka in Guangdong, I have no genealogy in Gao's family, but each family has its own genealogy. This reflects that the history is relatively loose and the branches lack contact. Secondly, I found that among the genealogies of surnames collected by libraries all over the country, Gao's genealogy is often relatively few and imperfect. On the one hand, this may reflect the deficiency of the tradition of compiling genealogy, on the other hand, it may also be the manifestation of the lack of clan consciousness of Gao surname.
because of this, I feel that it is of great significance to sort out the origin, development, migration, distribution, characters, contributions and traditions of the Gao surname from ancient times to the present through extensive investigations, and build a system. It is precisely because of the lack of any ready-made blueprint that the research is extremely difficult. Although I published the first monograph on the systematic study of the Gao surname, The History and Tradition of the Gao Clan, in 1997, I deeply feel that it is impossible to make a comprehensive investigation on my own. Therefore, the description of the distribution of the Gao Clan in various provinces in China in my works can only be a few representative points. In order to save the surviving genealogy after large-scale burning of genealogy, investigate and record precious memories while the elderly are alive, and carry out a nationwide survey of Gao's genealogy and legends, an elite team of Gao must be organized. The Gao family tree network has played a role in gathering young and middle-aged elites from all walks of life. On this basis, I have the courage and the possibility to put forward the initiative of setting up a research association again. Therefore, the research society was established, and the online young clansmen contributed greatly. This page will always be remembered in the history of Gao's research.
second, the achievements of Gao's genealogy network
Now, a large number of family information and root-seeking clues have been accumulated on Gao's genealogy network, which is a great achievement, including extremely precious discoveries. For example,
Gao Huaide, the founding father of the Northern Song Dynasty and the king of Bohai County, who is widely told by the people in history, has descendants widely distributed in the southeast area according to historical records. According to my own genealogy and investigation in the library, as well as the materials disclosed on the Internet, it is preliminarily indicated that Gao Huaide's descendants gradually moved south after the demise of the Northern Song Dynasty, and indeed clues of Gao Huaide's descendants were found in Huaiyang, Xiangcheng, Henan, Huaiyin, Yangzhou, Zhenjiang Dantu, Yixing, Wuxi, Changxing and Dexing, Huzhou, Zhejiang, Huangshan (ancient Huizhou), Guichi, Anhui and Chenghai, Shantou, Guangdong. In particular, the clansmen in Guichi introduced that their genealogy has a dragon pattern on the cover, which is called "dragon compilation", and there are 5 generations of characters. The last generation is today's young people. The first generation happened to be the era of Gao Huan, the founder of the Northern Qi Dynasty. The earliest genealogy of the Gao family clearly recorded in the history books is the Beiqi genealogy. In 1997, I worked out the main basis of Gao's lineage, The New Tang Book? 6? 1 Prime Minister's Genealogy and Xiaoshan Gao's Genealogy are all records that follow the Beiqi genealogy. In addition, the remains of Gao's ancient tomb exist in the high bay of Changxing, among which there are stone archways engraved with dragon patterns, reflecting the high status of the tomb owner.
Next to Gao Huaide, another famous Gao in history is the King of Wu Lie, Gao Qiong. Through this preparatory meeting for the inaugural meeting of the seminar, descendants of Gao Qiong from various places in Zhejiang, such as Wenzhou, Xiaoshan, Hangzhou, Haining, Jiangxi and Anhui, have also been linked, and descendants of Gao Shize, Gao Shiying and Gao Shiding, who are said to be "three fairs in the south" in Xiaoshan Spectrum, Haining Spectrum and Pangu Spectrum, have also been reunited.
Gao Bin, one of the three prime ministers with high surname in Qing Dynasty, came from Benxi, Liaoning Province. Now, members of this family have appeared on the Internet. The descendants of the Eight Banners of the Han Army in Liaoning Province are one of the active members on the Internet.
Many important branches of Gao surname in the provinces I introduced in my book also have members. For example: Jiaozhou, Shandong, Huaiyang, Xiangcheng, Mizhi, Shaanxi, Liuyang, Hunan, Changle, Daping, Zhangpu, Nanhai, Chaoyang, Taiwan Province, Hakka in eastern Guangdong and Bai in Yunnan. Overseas Gao clan is no exception.
Members of various branches scrambled to post genealogical data on the Internet and discussed with each other, which set off a fever of Gao's root-seeking. According to the news on the Internet, the "Cultural Revolution" was devastating to Chinese folk genealogy. But it also provides us with many precious clues. The great gathering of Gaos in the world brought by the Internet is the main reason to promote the birth of the national Gaos organization.
Third, the mission of the research society of Gao surname
I think that the first task of our research society after its establishment is to act immediately, select a group of leaders, and divide families into provinces and regions to carry out the national genealogy and legend survey. This is a top priority and it is urgent.
On the basis of the general survey, family leaders in all provinces and regions are responsible for supplementing the introduction of Gao's family in relevant provinces in my book, making up for the deficiency that many families failed to introduce it in the book, and striving to supplement and revise my book into The Complete Book of Gao's Family Name and publish it in public three years later.
The ultimate goal of the seminar is to fill the blank in the history of Gao's surname: to compile the General Spectrum of Gao's, and stipulate that the seminar will exist forever and continue to be revised every 3 years.
Secondly, the research institute should hold seminars on a regular basis, and organize forces to compile academic works, novels and plays on Gao's history, culture and people, and shoot TV films.
On the other hand, the task of the seminar is to assume the function of the Gao clan association and organize clan visits, friendship and root-seeking activities from time to time.
The publicity and communication of the seminar mainly depends on Gao's genealogy network, QQ group and e-mail, supplemented by telephone calls and letters, and the publication of the journal.
In order to successfully carry out activities such as management, communication, publicity, investigation, research, publication, meeting, root-seeking, friendship, etc. of the seminar, it is necessary to establish a foundation. I hope you will speak enthusiastically and discuss the structure of the foundation and the methods of fund management and use.
I hope that all Gao's research activists present here will go back to publicize and launch widely, and drive more clansmen to join our common cause, study our family history well, carry forward the fine traditions of Gao's ancestors, enhance Gao's cohesion, and create a glorious new chapter in Gao's history.
