Liu has been one of the executive members of the Hong Kong Designers Association since 1989, and served as the vice chairman from 1992 to 1993 and 1996 to 1997. He was elected as the chairman of the association in 1994 and 1995; he is also Founder of the Design and Hong Kong Committee. Liu is very concerned about the development of local and international design. In addition to giving extensive lectures in Hong Kong, he often gives lectures at various universities at home and abroad, such as the first World Trademark Biennale in Belgium. In addition, Liu is a part-time lecturer in the Fine Arts Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the School of Design of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education. She is also an academic advisor of the Cheung Kong School of Art and Design of Shantou University. He has designed for Friends of the Earth, World Wildlife Fund, 30 Famine and other volunteer groups; he was hailed as a true friend of nature by Wu Fangxiaowei, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Friends of the Earth. Liu currently holds leadership positions in a number of non-profit design organizations, including chairman of the board of directors of the Hong Kong Design Center, secretary-general of the Hong Kong Design Federation and consultant to the International Institute of Design Management.
