The main research field is agricultural information technology, and major breakthroughs have been made in intelligent decision-making platform of agricultural expert system and integrated application of precision agricultural technology. He has presided over the completion of more than 30 projects including the National 863 Plan, major high-tech industrialization projects of the State Planning Commission, national key scientific and technological projects, the Ministry of Agriculture 948, the National 973 Plan, the Beijing Natural Science Foundation and the National Natural Science Foundation. He has published more than 30 papers/kloc-0 in domestic and foreign academic journals such as International Journal of Remote Sensing, Soil Science and Plant Analysis, Field Crops Research, Science Bulletin, High-tech Communication and China Agricultural Science, among which more than 30 papers are included by SCI and EI. Editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief of many academic monographs 10, such as Construction Technology of Agricultural Expert System, Earth Observation Technology and Precision Agriculture, Precision Forestry, Principles of Surveying, and Precision Agriculture Technology and Application. Obtained 12 national patents and 24 software copyright registrations.

Presided over the development of agricultural intelligent system platform (paid), and conquered a series of intelligent key technologies in the construction of large-scale agricultural expert systems. The research results have been applied in 26 provinces and cities in China. As the technical team leader of the National 863 Program's major project "Intelligent Agricultural Information Technology Application Demonstration Project (863 Computer Agriculture for short)", he successfully organized and implemented the project nationwide, comprehensively promoted the application of intelligent agricultural information technology with agricultural expert system as the core, achieved a major breakthrough in the application of information technology in agriculture, and won the 2003 United Nations World Information Summit Award (e-Science). China took the lead in the research and demonstration of precision agriculture technology, put forward the theory of fertilization scale effect and the theoretical method of quantitative inversion of surface agricultural parameters, developed a number of major precision agriculture software and hardware technical products, initially established the technical system of precision agriculture in China from theory to technology and from product to system, and promoted the innovative development of precision agriculture technology in China. As the head of the overall expert group of the 863 Program Digital Agriculture Major Project, he took the lead in formulating the development strategy of digital agriculture in China, and organized and implemented it nationwide, and achieved remarkable results. He presided over three international academic conferences on intelligent agricultural information technology and two academic conferences on the development strategy of digital agriculture and rural informatization in China, which promoted the development of agricultural information technology in China.
